Rmani Henry: 2023 North Carolina Youth of the Year

Rmani Henry has been a Member of the Raleigh Girls Club for the past 13 years. She can still recall instantly falling in love with her Club when she started as a shy Kindergartener who needed a place to go after school. Now a high school graduate, Rmani maintains the same love she has for her Club and is thrilled to represent the Boys & Girls Clubs serving Wake County as the 2023 North Carolina Youth of the Year.

Growing up, Rmani endured many challenges and ultimately began to struggle with her mental health. She credits her Club with being her safe space and second home. In middle school, Club staff invited her to start helping with the dinner program, and she began to really look forward to being at the Club and being a leader. Eventually, Rmani became a Junior Staff member, and she is now a mentor and afterschool counselor at her Club.

Later, Rmani was invited to go on a field trip with the Raleigh Girls Club to UNC Rex’s Simulation Lab. This experience taught her about different healthcare careers, and, by the end of the trip, she knew she wanted to be a nurse. Club staff then encouraged Rmani to attend an early college where she could take nursing courses before starting college. This year, staff helped her apply to and get accepted to 8 colleges.

Rmani is passionate about mental health and healthcare. She recently graduated from Vernon Malone Early College as a Certified Nursing Assistant 1 & 2. In the Fall, Rmani will attend North Carolina A&T University to pursue her dream of becoming a Registered Nurse and helping others.
